Named after its first word, Surah Al-Asr is considered the essence of all the advice found in the Holy Quran, despite its brevity. It is narrated that Imam Shafi’i said regarding this surah: "If nothing else had been revealed in the Quran, even this very short surah would have been sufficient for humanity. This surah embraces all the sciences of the Quran."
It has been narrated that whenever two companions of the Prophet met, they would not depart from one another until one recited Surah Al-Asr to the other and offered a greeting of peace (salâm).
